For those that may have missed it, Quake was free on August 7 for a limited time as well, so it only makes sense that Quake 2 would follow. On August 17, Quake 3 will also become available for free, completing the trifecta of classic shooters. Though these games are certainly a bit dated, their brilliance shines through today, and old and new fans alike will have a blast playing them.

All players need to do to get the game is simply log in to their Bethesda Launchers. Doing so should add the title to the player’s library automatically, and fans should be prepared to do the same for Quake 3 on August 17. As of now, there is no word about Quake 4 being free to own any time soon, but if that happens it will likely be a few days after Quake 3’s promotion ends.
This is all in celebration of QuakeCon, Bethesda’s annual convention where the developer gets to talk about its upcoming games. These games in particular were made free as a reward for a successful charity drive that took place during the event, and this is Bethesda’s way of thanking fans.
Quake 2 is available for free on PC now.
